Make a Wish - A Teen Girl's Bedroom

A few years ago, a young girl in our community named Raegan was diagnosed with a brain tumor that took most of her sight. Raegan battled through and is now a teenager who is an aspiring interior designer. When Make a Wish asked to grant her a wish, she chose a new bedroom design where she could put some of her interior design dreams to work. I was invited to help with the process and surprise her with the finished product.

Before we delve into the new room design, let’s take a peek at her old room.

Raegan had some specific things on her list: hardwood floors, a daybed, a round rug, a swing/chair. She was able to do some of the shopping online to hand pick pieces that would go in her new bedroom. I created a design board she could see it come together after each of her selections were made.

Walls were painted a soft pink. Hardwoods were installed. And after everything had been ordered, a day was picked to decorate and surprise Raegan with the finished product. She had no idea it was happening on this particular day. So while she knew the room was being worked on, the reveal was a complete surprise.

A few of her friends welcomed her home when she got out of school that day.

It was special to find art that represented a strong, fighting girl like Raegan. “Life is tough but so are you” welcomes her as she walks into her bedroom. And right over her bed it says “Strong like a girl”, “Hello beautiful” and “Never Give Up”. Great reminders for us all.
