One Room Challenge Week 4 - The Powder Room

Welcome to week #4 of the One Room Challenge!

(If you're just joining me, you can catch up on the last three weeks right here....week 1, week 2, week 3).

I'd like to start by thanking everyone for the comments on my mirror color!  Last week, I was in a major quandary about which color was best for our powder room.    There were so many great suggestions!  The good news is that I think I've found the right color!  I think in real life, it appears a touch more on the silver side. But in pictures, it shows up as more of a gold.  I took a ton of pictures and this was the most accurate.

CHAMPAGNE MIRROR

The shelves are hung up too!  I love how they look, but to be quite honest, I'm not thrilled with the quality.  Yes, you get what you pay for {and being that I only paid $20 per shelf, I'm shouldn't be surprised I'm disappointed!}.

I wanted to see if I would like the height and spacing of the shelves, so I used painters tape as a visual guide.

I was sure it would be easy to hang the shelves.  I don't get scared away from wall anchors or securing something to my walls.  But for some darn reason, these shelves weren't cooperating.

WALL CLEAT FOR SHELVES

I'm sure the above picture looks like things were going along perfectly fine.  But the shelf wouldn't properly hook onto the wall cleat.  After drilling several holes into my newly painted and patched walls, I had to step away from the project. I was frustrated. And it was taking way too long.

A day later, I gave it another go and finally just accepted the fact that these shelves aren't perfect.  They are hung, but they are not nearly as secure as I'd like. They don't sit flush against the walls. And I have no idea why. Maybe my wall isn't perfectly flat?  Or maybe it's the cheap shelf. At any rate, I'm just living with it for now because I like how they look.

FLOATING SHELVES

As I started pulling out items to decorate the shelves, I remembered some sweet scripture prints that I bought awhile ago from Jones Design Company.   And they were even the right size for my frames!

The prints bring just the right touch of color to the bathroom.

Things are really coming along!  I think the last big 'to do' for this one room challenge is to select a rug! Come back next week to see what I've chosen!
